Primary Tooth Fillings
A filling may be recommended when a primary tooth has a cavity but still has enough healthy structure to be restored.
The decayed portion is removed or managed, and a suitable restorative material is placed to rebuild the tooth’s shape and function.

When May a Filling Be Used?
View possible clinical indications
- Small or moderate cavities
- Chipped primary teeth
- Worn tooth surfaces
- Selected developmental defects
- Replacement of a damaged filling
- Areas requiring an interim restoration
Materials may include tooth-coloured composite, glass ionomer cement or another clinically suitable restoration depending on the tooth and cavity.
A filling may not be sufficient when decay is extensive, the nerve is affected or very little healthy tooth structure remains.
