Restore Missing Teeth with
Strength, Stability
and Confidence
Missing teeth can affect much more than your smile. They may make
chewing difficult, alter speech, affect neighbouring teeth and
contribute to gradual jawbone changes.
Dental implants provide a fixed tooth-replacement option by
replacing the missing tooth root with an implant placed in the
jawbone.

UNDERSTANDING DENTAL IMPLANTS
What Is a
Dental Implant?
A dental implant is a small biocompatible fixture placed into the
jawbone to act as an artificial tooth root.
IMPLANT RESTORATION ANATOMY
Three Components Working Together
01
03
VISIBLE RESTORATION
Crown or Prosthesis
02
CONNECTING COMPONENT

ARTIFICIAL TOOTH ROOT
Implant Fixture
01
Implant Fixture
Placed inside the jawbone.
02
Abutment
Connects the implant to the artificial tooth.
03
Crown, Bridge or Prosthesis
The visible replacement for the missing tooth or teeth.
After placement, the implant is given time to integrate with the
surrounding bone. Once adequate healing and stability are
achieved, the final tooth or prosthesis can be attached.
IMPLANT SUITABILITY
When May Dental Implants Be Considered?
02
Implant treatment may be considered after evaluating the missing
teeth, surrounding gums, available bone, bite and general health.
01
One missing tooth
02
Several missing teeth
03
Teeth that cannot be predictably restored
04
Loose or uncomfortable removable dentures
05
Difficulty chewing because of missing teeth
06
Complete loss of teeth in one or both jaws
07
A failing dental bridge
08
Reduced confidence due to missing teeth
09
Sufficient bone or a condition that may be managed with
bone augmentation
NATURAL TOOTH PRESERVATION
Whenever possible, preserving a healthy or predictably
restorable natural tooth remains a priority. Implant replacement
is recommended only after carefully assessing the available
treatment options.
When several teeth are missing, individual implants or an
implant-supported bridge may be used. Every missing tooth does
not necessarily require a separate implant.
How are the number and positions planned?
Number and location of missing teeth
Available bone
Bite forces
Space between teeth
Condition of the gums
Type of final restoration
Long-term maintenance requirements
i
A carefully planned implant-supported bridge may provide a
fixed alternative to a removable partial denture in suitable
cases.
All-on-6 rehabilitation uses six implants to support a complete
fixed arch of replacement teeth. Additional implants can provide
broader support and force distribution in appropriate cases.
When may this approach be recommended?
Adequate bone is available
Additional implant support is desirable
A full arch of teeth requires replacement
Wider implant distribution may support prosthetic planning
The patient’s bite and anatomy support this approach
i
All-on-4, All-on-6 or another solution is selected after
clinical and radiographic assessment. More implants are not
automatically better for every patient.
Immediate implant placement means placing an implant during the
same appointment in which a tooth is removed.
It may reduce the number of surgical stages in carefully selected
cases, but it is not suitable for every extraction site.
What determines suitability?
Condition of the surrounding bone
Presence and extent of infection
Gum tissue condition
Implant stability
Tooth location and aesthetic requirements
General health and healing capacity
!
Immediate implant placement does not necessarily mean that the
final crown can be fitted on the same day. Placement and loading
are separate clinical decisions.
REBUILDING IMPLANT SUPPORT
Bone Grafting & Augmentation
SERVICE 08 OF 12
Bone Grafting and Bone Augmentation
BONE SUPPORT
Dental implants require adequate bone support. After tooth loss,
trauma or long-standing gum disease, the jawbone may become too
narrow or deficient for ideal implant placement.
Bone grafting aims to rebuild or preserve the implant site.
Bone augmentation procedures may include
Socket preservation after extraction
Localised bone grafting
Ridge augmentation
Guided bone regeneration
Grafting at the time of implant placement
Staged grafting before implant placement
i
The graft material, technique and timing are selected according
to the size and location of the bone deficiency.
The maxillary sinus lies above the upper back teeth. When molars
have been missing for a long time, the remaining bone below the
sinus may be insufficient for implant placement.
A sinus lift carefully elevates the sinus lining and places graft
material beneath it to create additional bone height.
When may a sinus lift be considered?
Upper-back teeth require implant replacement
Available bone height is insufficient
The sinus lies close to the jaw ridge
Bone has reduced after long-term tooth loss
A stable implant position cannot otherwise be achieved
i
Depending on available bone, the implant may be placed during
the sinus-lift procedure or after the graft has healed.
Implant treatment is completed with a carefully designed
restoration. Depending on the number of missing teeth, this may
be an individual crown or an implant-supported bridge.
Restoration planning aims to achieve
Comfortable chewing
Appropriate bite contact
Natural proportions
Compatibility with surrounding teeth
Cleanable contours
Healthy support around the implant
Long-term serviceability
i
Implant crowns and bridges may be screw-retained or
cement-retained depending on implant position and restorative
requirements.
Full-mouth rehabilitation is a comprehensive treatment approach
for patients with multiple missing, damaged, worn or failing
teeth.
What may treatment combine?
Dental implants
Implant-supported crowns and bridges
Full-arch implant prostheses
Natural-tooth crowns and bridges
Gum treatment
Bone grafting
Bite correction
Temporary restorations
Final aesthetic and functional rehabilitation
i
The goal is to rebuild the mouth in a planned sequence while
considering chewing, appearance, speech, comfort and long-term
maintenance. Several treatment stages and specialist
coordination may be required.
Implant suitability is determined individually after considering
oral health, available bone, medical history, lifestyle and
long-term maintenance requirements.

Implant placement is generally performed under local anaesthesia. Pressure may be felt during the procedure, but the area should be numb. Some swelling, tenderness or discomfort can occur during healing and is managed according to the clinician’s instructions.
The timeline varies according to the extraction site, bone condition, implant stability, grafting requirements and type of restoration. Some treatments can be completed in fewer stages, while grafted or complex full-arch cases may require a longer healing period.
Immediate placement may be possible when the extraction socket, bone, gums and implant stability are favourable. A clinical examination and imaging are required to confirm suitability.
No. Immediate implant placement refers to placing the implant on the day of extraction. Providing an immediate temporary tooth and fitting the final crown are separate decisions based on implant stability and clinical conditions.
No. Bone grafting is recommended only when the existing bone is insufficient for appropriate implant positioning or long-term support.
